Hearth Bread, Miltown, Co Cavan

Hearth Bread is Lucy McGarrity and in her words:

I bake slow-fermented sourdough loaves made with organic and heritage flours and the magic of wild yeasts.
I have called it Hearth Bread.
The hearth, or Teallach in Irish, burning day and night, provides warmth, light, nourishment and a gathering place; it symbolises the centre of family life.
Teaching workshops to others is a way to pass on the pleasure and importance of baking bread and to connect with the knowledge of our ancestors.

I bake for our community from my Bread Shed.
My real passion is to spread the joy, to provide the knowledge and to start others on their own sourdough journey.
My aim is to enable everyone to bake their own bread at home, to conquer the fear around sourdough and to make baking and eating real, naturally leavened bread a part of our daily lives.
